  • It’s a gravity dam built in 1957 across the Muthirapuzha River as part of the Chengulam Hydroelectric Project
  • Officially named Sengulam Dam, it initially supported a 48 MW plant (4×12 MW turbines) commissioned in 1954; upgraded to ~51.2 MW in 2002
  • Constructed to utilize tailrace water from the Pallivasal project, the powerhouse is located at Vellathooval
